Well, we talked about that at other place before, but I think, it is a good idea to mention it on this new board again: We alway have the problem on hot days, what we can do for our Chins to not overheat and feel well. Not everybody has an air-conditioning and even this can break. So some of us tried, to pack Chill elements or bottles with frozen water into Fleece ... but our smart Chinnies find out way to often, how to unpack it from the fleece and if the element or bottle was from plastic - well - then you will have to clean your cage soon from the running out water In USA you can buy Chin Chillers (boxes from wood, with a stone plate on top and Chill elements inside) - but if you can't buy this in your country or want to find a cheaper possibility, then a metal box is doing the same good job! You can find some in your supermarket - often they sell cookies in those metal boxes, or some shops sell it emty, for self-made cookies. Then you do some chill elements (like for Chill pockets) inside and do it in the cage (best standing on it's head, so that the Chins really can't open it). You can lay a fleece blanket over it, if the Chins like to sit on it, but often they will just enjoy to sit near enough to it, to feel well and fresh! Hugs Ilka

OOh, Ilka, what a great idea. I never would have thought to use a cookie tin. I have been worrying about losing power the last few days because of some nasty thunderstorms we've been having. I guess I need to find myself a cookie tin, I'm sure I have one floating around the ..... somewhere! ~Holly~

Oh, oh ... but Holly, I forgot the best: If you don't find an old one in your ..... and have to buy one, you FIRST have to eat all cookies!! *lol* ;D Hugs Ilka

;D Cookie boxes are such a nice help.I don't know what I would do without them. Here we have a lot of power blackouts due to an overload of the power system.
Another hint: If you are worried about the paint of the cookie boxes, you can remove it with sandpaper.

I use a heavy up turned ceramic baking dish with the ice pack beneath...they are less likely to get condensation And it doesn't make you fat! lol

Also, there's cake pans they are oval. You can buy them really cheap at the dollar store.
I have one in Shiloh's cage trying to litter box train him but he usually has fun kicking the shavings out and then sitting in the litter pan during the day because it stay a bit cool.
