If you want to grab your chin and just snuggle with him or her I can understand. The thing is chins don't really like to be grabbed, it startles them and they immediately try to get away. I've noticed, with my new chinchilla, Snickers, that all I have to do is hold my hand out and she will hop right in. I gently lift my hand out and join it with the other. This may take a while if your chinchilla is not used to you yet but they prefer this much more then being grabbed.
If you want to pet your lil' buddy you need to bring one hand up slowly and just let him or her sniff it for a little bit, just so they can feel more comfortable. You might even want to give them a straw of hay to nibble so they are relaxed and know that you aren't trying to hurt them. Gently place your hand on top of the chin and stroke down their back. Good Luck! Your Friend, ChinLuv3r (Nic)
